Structure of the PADI Instructor Development Course

The IDC (Instructor Development Course) consists of two main components:

Assistant Instructor (AI)

Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI)

The second part prepares you to independently teach the core PADI scuba diving courses.

What You Will Learn During the IDC

Dive professionals who already hold an Instructor rating from another recognised diving organisation may be able to enroll directly in the OWSI portion of the IDC, allowing them to become PADI Instructors through a crossover program.

IDC Prerequisites

To enroll in the PADI Instructor Development Course, you must meet the following requirements:

✔ Minimum 18 years of age
✔ Be a PADI Divemaster (or equivalent certification)
✔ Be a certified diver for at least 6 months
✔ Have at least 60 logged dives to begin the IDC
✔ Have at least 100 logged dives to attend the Instructor Examination (IE)
✔ Have completed EFR training within the last 24 months
✔ Provide a medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months
